Job Description: |
The Wildlife Research & Development Section (WRDS) of Ministry of Natural Resources in Peterborough is involved in all aspects of wildlife research. The city of Peterborough and surroundings offer a full range of facilities, amenities and services, retail stores, community centers, sports arenas, and outdoor activities. Housing is available for sale or rent.
Working with a wildlife research scientist on research to assess the effects of climate change, disease, habitat fragmentation, and other stressors on the sustainability and conservation of various wildlife species in Ontario. The intern will assist in a variety of research projects, including projects on wild turkeys, mink, lynx, and small mammals. This position will provide project experience in mammal and bird research, the wildlife research program, and implementation of wildlife policy in partnership with Policy Division.
Qualifications:Proof of full-time enrollment in a recognized post-secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years; knowledge of species at risk in Ontario and landscape/behavioural ecology; experience with genetic and/or biogeochemical lab approaches in an ecological context would be an asset; demonstrated ability to work on mammals and/or birds in the field; ability to initiate and carry out scientific studies; good computer and statistical skills for analyses of wildlife data; good communications skills (oral, writing, and editing); demonstrated team skills, tact & good judgment; knowledge of worker responsibilities under the Occupational Health & Safety Act; valid driver`s license and must be willing to be vaccinated against rabies.
