If you are a policy specialist interested in enhancing your strategic policy, research expertise, and policy development skills, then consider this opportunity with the Ministry of the Environment, Land and Water Policy Branch to coordinate policy and program development within a technical and politically high profile policy area.
You will provide policy related advice and support and brief senior management on contentious issues; coordinate, research and prepare briefing materials, answers to order paper questions, and house notes on a variety of issues while providing the branch`s perspective on all policy documents. You will also develop and maintain linkages with counterparts in the division, ministry, other ministries and central agencies to facilitate the exchange of information and the identification and resolution of issues; and participate on projects as required.
Qualifications:Advanced knowledge of environmental policy issues, principles, and practices; environmental legislation and regulations (I.e. Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Safe Drinking Water Act and Pesticides Act) and current knowledge of environmental issues and trends to analyze a range of environmental policy issues; and demonstrated ability to provide expert advice on policy matters. Advanced knowledge of Ontario`s political structure/processes, central agency functions and requirements, and environmental decision-making processes. Knowledge of government policy development processes and procedures. Excellent research, analytical, evaluative skills including the ability to resolve conflicts. Strong leadership, interpersonal, consensus-building and communication skills; demonstrated skills in judgment, political acuity, discretion and diplomacy. Advanced planning, organizational, and administrative skills. Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages and database software (i.e. MS Office).
