Postnum: 138 EntryID:767
To whom it may concern,

I was wondering if any of the Automotive readers in this forum know of any designations or programs that encourage tier I and tier II suppliers to use recyled plastics.

If anyone has any information o this it would help me greatly in an upcoming presentation I have with an automotive supplier. I was wondering if there was incentive for the use of recycled products under QS or ISO . . . or even government or environmental designations.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yours truly,

Tribu Persaud

The European Union has passed "Directive 2000/53/EC - End of Life Vehicles", which requires that vehicles sold in Europe meet certain requirements. Article 4 of this directive states that vehicle manufacturers shall "integrate an increasing quantity of recycled material in vehicles and other products."

In order to satisfy these requirements, the auto manufactures have in turn developed their own standards for designated substances and recyclabilty requirements for their suppliers to meet. See the following examples for more info:

- DaimlerChrysler - CS-9003 - Environmental, Health, and Occupational Safety Requirements for Regulated Substances or Processes and Product Recycling Reporting Requirements

- General Motors - GMW3116 - Recyclability, Recoverability Guidelines

we have not been hit with any recycling requirements beyond the scope of cost savings and ISO 14000. But we are relitively small, only 10 sites, and supply Toyota almost exclusively.
