Postnum: 203 EntryID:953
I am investigating different methods of ranking significant aspects. We are considering changing our current ranking system and I would love to be able to compare other models/methods out there. If you would be will to share your method, I certainly would appreciate it.

In our system we assigned a numerical coefficient to each impact based on things like regulatory requirements, volume, or possibility of entering a media. This allowed a more nuetral rating system where we designated the top 20% as significant and the rest as insignificant. As impacts are mitigated by progams or processes change they are reassessed and new aspected move to the top. This allows a living system which easily shows imporvement as required by the standard. It also takes a lot of time out of the decision making process when deciding on program development.

Specifically - I am looking for the actual formula/calculation used.

e.g. probability x severity x legalated factor

and the ranking scale for each parameter in the equation

e.g. 1 to 10, 1 to 5, 1 to 3 or other.

Hi, In response to your inquiry about ranking Significant Aspects, here is how we did it (and it seemed to work well for us): The (Total) Score = Probability x Consequence where Probability = Frequency + Need for Control and Consequence = Severity + Scale + Duration + Public Image + Legal Req’ts We developed a scale of 1-3 for each of the above variables (i.e. Frequency 1-Very Infrequent, 2-Moderate Frequency and 3- Very Frequent) Hope this helps, Jennifer
