Posted by: Greg Clarke on 4/5/02 Title: asphalt recycling and burial
Postnum: 57 EntryID:527
Recently a runway on the Air Force Base in Greenwood N.S. had been repaired. The old asphalt was removed,approx.50,000 tons is buried in my community, another 50,000 tons is awaiting clearance from environment canada for recycling by a private company and the same amount again is laying in a field awaiting who knows. My question is how safe is asphalt that is removed from a military base with 40 years of air traffic, does buried asphalt pose a hazard and does cold and hot recycling pose any dangers I should be aware of.Also the possible recycling facility is within 200 ft of a main waterway.
