waste audits and audit summary and reduction workplan

Hi,
I have performed a waste audit for a manufacturing facility in Ontario and I am in the process of completing the waste reduction workplan summary and audit summary with the guide of the MOE's "Guide to waste audits and reduction workplans for ICI sectors". The guide is somewhat helpful, however quite vague in details of actual procedures of filling out the forms. Has anyone else had the opportunity to take on such project? If so, any comments, tips, ideas to share about this?

Just did the same thing. We found that using percentages is better. Set realistic targets (ISO 14001 can be used if a waste reduction objective exists there). Be specific to what you want to reduce by how much. Then ensure that people who handle such waste are informed and trained on new or modified procedures to achieve the targets. Good Luck!

Waste reduction is an area that is very touchy for many manufacturers. Before setting Goals/Targets and procedures amke sure the people on the floor and management both uderstand the process and what they are expected to do. Nothing will make a system fail fater than not getting buy in from either of these groups. Mike J.
