Postnum: 26 EntryID:74
Anyone know of a no cost way to recycle CDs? We from time-to-time dispose of quite a number and would be interested in setting up a location to facilitate others to recycle.

I'll post again if I find anywhere through independant research.

All you have to pay for is to ship them to the organization in Minnesota.

Matt,

It looks as if they only take jewel cases. I found one company in the UK that takes CDs, but only a container load at a time (80 tons, I think!) So .... I'm still looking!

Cambridge, Ontario. I'm at the Grand River Conservation Authority.

Currently we have 60, but if we have a means of recycling CDs I'm confident we can get many more.

Hi Phil,

EPMG (1997) Inc. (Toronto) may also take CDs and DVDs for recycling.

EPMG (1997) Inc. usually takes large quantities (i.e, truck loads), but have taken smaller amounts of discs that aren't uncontaminated (removed from cases, etc.) on a case by case basis. You would have to call them first to discuss.

You can get more info about them from their listing in our Marketplace at http://www.canadianenvironmental.com/marketplace Best regards, Editor

Phil,

We are an electronics recycler in Mississauga and while pre-recorded CD's are not our primary business by any means, we do get a lot of them and thus would be happy to take yours too. There's no revenue recovery in it for us so we just offer it as a service of convenience for our clients. When we have accumulated approx 5,000 lbs of CD's, a Belgian company takes them from us. I think they ship them to their staging facility in NY from where they go on a container to Europe when they have the requisite 40,000 lbs or so. Anyways, for more information on us, please visit www.logicbox.com and you can get the address and phone # etc. Al the best, - Sharat

We too are interested in recycling CDs. We are a nonprofit organization that is researching ways to generate waste diversion. We are just beginning our research so any info is appreciated.

We're a new company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Once we are up & running, it is possible we may be accepting odd/small quantities of unscratched/unphysically damaged CDs (with & without jewel cases) for use in some of the products we are planning to manufacture. We will be primarily 'Up-Cycling' with "recycling" acting as the 'bottom end' of our activities, primarily to prevent most of any of our waste from going to landfill. We may also be accepting various other types of hard to recycle materials & objects. If you send them to us at your cost, we'll use them in some of our projects & product lines. By the way, Up-cycling is the manufacturing of things without completely breaking down the base material. IE: No grinding up of that plastic bottle....You make a flower vase out of it. That is a pretty simplistic, and just an example (and far too simplistic than what we're doing) but it gives you an idea of what Upcycling is about.

We are a plastic recycler in Hong Kong and our mission is to strive to protect the environment by recycling PC CD scrap. As we will start another two production lines soon, we could process more CD scrap in the near future. Those who could provide any CD scrap are welcome to contact.
